The new Getac S410 G5 raises the bar for Semi-rugged laptops
Getac S410 G5 is the next generation of the popular 14-inch Semi-rugged laptop. Designing newer generation of the computer, Getac equipped it with more efficient and new 13th generation Intel Raptor Lake processor. At the moment, Getac S410 G5 is the only rugged laptop offering Intel Raptor Lake. Moreover, it stands out in more ways than its predecessor and the competition. Ruggedness
I present this laptop as a computer in the Semi-rugged category, but it should not be confused with a laptop that cannot cope with difficult conditions. It is designed for field workers and other industries requiring a solid and reliable computer. It tolerates working conditions well in which an ordinary laptop reaches the end of its lifespan. It has obtained MIL-STD-810H and IP53 certificates, which confirms the extent to which the laptop is resistant to extreme operating conditions such as mechanical damage, shocks, vibrations and falls on concrete, flooding with water, dust and working in the rain. Its operating temperature ranges from -29°C to 63°C.
Design and dimensions
The design is not much different from the previous generation S410, but it must be admitted that it gives the impression of a durable laptop. S410 G5 is made of ABS+PC plastic. In the case of Getac Fully-rugged computers, they are made of a magnesium alloy.
As a curiosity, I will add that one fourth of the casing of this laptop is made of recycled materials (PCR), while maintaining the durability at an appropriate level. Getac S410 G5 is the most eco-friendly computer that Getac has produced so far.
The laptop with dimensions of 35 cm x 29.3 cm x 3.85 cm and a weight of 2.38 kg is quite a light and handy portable computer for this class of notebooks. For additional convenience, it is equipped with a carrying handle.
Battery
The S410 G5 has extremely long battery life. It is possible to choose a laptop configuration that will have a total of almost 200 Wh of on-board battery power. There is a place for two batteries with a capacity of 74.5 Wh in each, and also for an additional third battery with a capacity of 46.6 Wh in the multimedia bay.
Better connectivity
The connectivity options used in the new S410 are Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and Ethernet with a transfer speed of 10/100/1000 megabits per second. It also has a Dual SIM function (Mini-SIM 2FF and e-SIM). Optionally, it can be configured to a model equipped with 4G/5G LTE, integrated GPS and Pass-through.
Data safety
Getac S410 G5 offers a wide range of features to improve data security, such as: TPM2.0, removable disk and authentication options such as Windows Hello, RFID reader, Smart Card and fingerprint reader.
Configurability – optional features to choose
Getac S410 G5 will be sold with Microsoft Windows 11 Pro OS. It will be possible to choose a configuration with up to 2TB of memory on a PCIe NVMe drive and an optional additional second 1TB SATA SSD drive. It can also be equipped with 64GB of DDR5 RAM.
Technically, the Getac S410 G5 laptop offers many interesting features.
First of all, the Intel® Core™ i7-1370P vPro®, Intel® Core™ i7-1360P, Intel® Core™ i5-1350P vPro or Intel® Core™ i5-1340P Processor mentioned in the introduction.
In addition, it is equipped with a 1000-nits brightness screen, designed with LumiBond® 2.0 technology, which allows to work comfortably even in strong sunlight.
As standard, it is equipped with a backlit LED keyboard, and optionally it can also have a touch screen with FHD or HD resolution. Every S410 G5 has a 1,000-nits Lumibond display.
The graphics card used in the Getac S410 G5 is Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics or Intel® UHD Graphics, and for higher requirements, it can be equipped with NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 4GB.
S410 G5 in its basic configuration is equipped with connectors:
• 3 x USB Type-A
• 1 x USB Type-C (Thunderbolt)
• 1 x LAN
• 1 x HDMI
Optionally, it can be configured with additional connectors and options such as:
• additional USB Type-A PowerShare
• MicroSD
• SIM card slot (Mini-SIM, 2FF)
• 5M webcam and Windows Hello
• RF pass-through antenna
• RS-232 serial port
• VGA
• second RJ-45 connector
• DisplayPort interface.
Additionally, we can choose to configure this laptop with:
• barcode reader
• DVD drive
• Smart Card reader.

Summary
The most important features of the Getac S410 G5 and what makes it stand out among Semi-rugged laptops are primarily processor performance and speed, battery life, portability, a wide selection of available configurations and advanced connectivity options.
Getac, when designing this computer, obviously made a lot of effort to offer a top-class semi-rugged laptop for professional users with high requirements, which will also be light and handy.
